The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The first book. What a book it was! I can't wait to read the second!

I actually saw the (first two) movie(s) first and had a friend who told me I was an idiot for not have read the books. So I promised her that before the last one I'd have read them all.

I love how the movie stayed true to the story, even if the story in the book was better (it always is, except for in Divergent (Hows that even possible??)).
But back to the book. I feel that I can identify with Katniss on some levels. I don't think I'll ever be as brave as her or as good at surviving, but something in her personality seems familiar (mostly the confusion around feelings). I think this feeling of similarity is very important. Without it a book looses almost all of its charm.
When talking about Peeta all I can say is "Where can I buy one?" He's got many of the qualities I think all girls want in a boy.

Going on the to other important characters.
Haymitch, I love him. He's just... I don't know. He's just easy to like, the drunk bastard.
Effie is somewhat annoying. She's a little over the top but I like that we readers get this close to someone from the Capitol.
Gale. He's role isn't big but it is big enough that you know he will play an important part before the end.

I don't think I've got much more to say... Except, I love how the Capitol makes fun of Hollywood. That's it.
