Chobits, Vol. 01 by CLAMP
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This book is fun, simple and got the mystery to keep you interested.
The story follows Hideki, a really unsuccessful and broke guy, who finds a persocom (computer that looks like a human), Chi. But something is wrong with her. Soon he starts to suspect she being a chobit. A urban legend - A computer more powerful than anything with the power to learn (not just be programmed).
Chi being really cute Hideki has a hard time remembering she's just a machine. Most of the humor is drawn from this. Example: Chi, being as innocent as a child who doesn't understand the world, finds his porn collection and doesn't understand what it is. Result: Hideki freaks out.
The manga also has a beautiful artwork (this is really important)(I can't read it otherwise). And it's written and drawn by women <- that came as a chock to me. Read and you understand.
My personal thoughts/opinions:This manga shows a terrifying future where people (often it seems) rather spend time with their persocoms (computers in human form) than with real life people. Already in this first volume you get to see glimpses of the problem. I can't help but thinking what a horrible world it would be and how were going there already.
This manga has a depth to it and will hopefully make people think.
